exCHANGE 2003

Theme 2003
The annual theme was “Landmines”. Nine countries were represented: Afghanistan, Bosnia, Cambodia, Croatia, Iraq, Mozambique, Serbia and Montenegro, Sri Lanka and the US. The participants were involved in various fields like de-mining, raising mines awareness, humanitarian help, human rights and politics. They were all engaged with either government offices or non-governmental organizations .

The workshop that exCHANGE organized included sessions on the represented countries and their conflicts. Experiences were exchanged for exemple between Iraqis and Americans, Serbs and Bosnians.

The young leaders met officials of international organizations and Swiss authorities active in the field of landmines and peace promotion: local activists met international personalities. The peace promoters interacted with representative of Swiss authorities at local, cantonal and federal level. They showed great interest in the federal democratic system, which they compared with their own political system.

Participants 2003
The participants represented their countries in the public conference organized at the ETH (Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich, with the participation of the Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs Micheline Calmy-Rey and former Swiss President Adolf Ogi.
